I tried OS Yosemite and the configured using the partition instructions. I was able to use Disk Utilities on an older OS. This should recreate your single volume as GUID/HFS+.

Then select your actual device - not the indented volume - and then the Erase making sure the Partition Map Scheme is GUID and format is Mac OS Extended (Journaled). OK, here’s what fixed this for me.Open Disk Utility (not in Recovery Mode) and change the View drop-down (upper left corner) to Show All Devices. See more: Operation Could Not Be Completed Access Is Denied, The Operation Could Not Be Completed I have had the exact same problem this evening. Nothing works trying to erase the disk - not the proper Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format or any other formats erase, although it opens a box that says it is erasing. Using Disk Utility the HD shows as disk3s1 (yours is disk2s1). This came up with Time Machine, but then Time Machine doesn’t see the HD. I am getting the same fail message you are - “MediaKit reports not enough space on device for requested operation.” This should not be the case as my iMac drive is 1.1 TB and is only one third full.

I bought a brand new Easystore portable 2 TB HD in October, 2017, and just now, 5 January,2018, opened the package and tried to use with my iMac 5k Retina 27 inch, Late 2014 desktop computer, also running OS 10.13.2.

I’ve tried partitioning the drive into 7.75GB/0.25GB. “disk2s1” now appears in grey in the sidebar where “easystore” used to be in black. MediaKit reports not enough space on device for requested operation. I tried erasing it to reformat it as Mac OS Extended (Journaled), and the message says “Unmounting disk. I installed it onto my Mac properly, but when I tried to format this drive to make it writeable, an error screen says there isn’t enough space available for this to occur. The mac is for my work only.I just bought a brand new 8TB easystore external hard drive. Ps.: I dont want to use my itunes library/ my iPod connected to the mac. I dont know if I was able to make my question really clear I didnt want to reformat the Lacie to later find out that I would have to look for every single music file, because that would be nearly impossible. My only doubt is that if I do this reformatting, will I have any problems using the iTunes library while connected to my pc and iPod? I just ask that because every time I changed any iTunes library folder on the computer, the iTunes would say that the music file couldnt be found and ask me if I wanted to look for the file. I have already read that I would have to copy the files that are on the Lacie, reformat the Lacie and then paste the files back. The problem is that I bought a mac now and I wanted the Lacie hard disk to be able to transfer files from mac to pc and vice versa.

I will keep using this PC while connected to the Lacie hard disk to syncro my iPod. I have some files there, but more importantly, my iTunes library is saved directly on the Lacie (I have everything on apple lossless, so they are some big files). Hi, I have a Lacie external hard disk that was originally formatted for PCs.
